ICELANDAIR DC6B Original By Tom Gibson and Harry Follas.
TF-FIP 'Solfaxi' Repainted by Gerry McLaughlin

When I was at school in the 1960's, the flightpath from the local airport passed very close by. I would always look up as an aircraft flew over, and it would usually be a Viscount, or a Herald, or occasionally something a bit more exotic like a British Eagle Britannia or even a BAC1-11. However, now and again a different sound attracted my attention and I would look up to see the magnificent DC6 of Icelandair make its spectacular nose down approach inbound from Keflavik - or perhaps it was Reykjavik, I dont know. It seemed even then to be pretty old and I must admit I felt a bit of sympathy for Icelandair whom I assumed could'nt afford a nice 'new' aircraft.
There were even a few days when the wind caused flights to TAKE OFF over the school - I can still picture that 'Six then - transformed - thundering low over the rooftops - Pratts deafening at take-off power as it continued on its way to London Airport.
In due course, Icelandair did get a nice new jet - a 727 - they even painted it in the same magnificent colour scheme. As 727s went it was pretty cool too - you could see its smoke trail for miles. But it was never in the same class as that DC6!

When I first discovered Tom Gibson's great Classic Airliners site I was able to realise some of the imagined pleasure of flying in a piston airliner. After a while, however, I wanted something that I remembered from my youth, and since Tom's site is for aircraft which flew in or to the USA, I decided to paint one myself. This is it -
TF-FIP 'Solfaxi' of Icelandair. I hope you like it.

Thanks to Tom Gibson and Harry Follas who made the moving -parts DC6B which is the basis of this repainted aircraft, and for letting me do it. I still retain parts of Tom's paintwork and of course Harry's very clever metal textures which add so much to the realism. The original Western Airlines aircraft is great, and I still fly it too.
So many great aircraft..so little hard disk space!
I'd also like to thank all the other people who contribute so much to the FS community, making models, recording sounds, designing panels; all those things I'd love to be able to do, but can't.

Now read the FS98 DC-6B CLOUDMASTER Text, for all the information about this aircraft, and how to install it. Also, read that legal stuff!

Enjoy!
